(September 20, 2017) Cheesemaker – Smith’s Country Cheese (Winchendon, MA)
Smith’s Country Cheese has been making award-winning Gouda, cheddar, and Havarti with the raw milk from their 200 Holstein cows since 1985.  We are a family-owned-and-operated business and are searching for a part-time cheese maker to help us keep up with demand!  This position will be 20-30 hours/week, making cheese from about 7:30am-5:30pm (2-3 days/week).  The job requires that you’re standing on your feet and working in a 90-degree (F) room with about 90% humidity.  Our cheese making requires lifting up to 80 lbs., working in cold and hot temperatures, and a willingness to learn from and work alongside the business owners.
Of the utmost importance is personal hygiene and sanitation.  We follow extremely strict cleaning and sanitation practices that must be consistently adhered to each day. Non-smokers only.
While this is not a “glamorous” job by any means, it is fulfilling, physical work for the right person. There is potential to grow into a full-time, salaried position as the business grows.  We are a hard-working group of dairy farmers looking for a passionate cheese maker to join our family.
