(2/16/17) CHEESEMAKER, Couët Farm & Fromagerie, Dudley, MA

Couët Farm & Fromagerie is a young cheesemaking company, entering into its third year of operation. We create small batch, handmade, cave-aged cheeses in Beaujolais and Catalonian styles. We work directly with northeast family dairies, supporting our agricultural community, and we use only high quality clean, rich, raw milk. We are currently the only Massachusetts sheep milk cheesemaker!

JOB DESCRIPTION We have an opening for a cheesemaker to start immediately. This is a full time position, approximately 40 hours per week with daily variation; this is not a 9 to 5 job. The position reports to the owner of Couët Farm & Fromagerie. We are looking at expanding our small team, where each of us wears many hats, and we expect the new hire to be willing to do the same. While we would prefer our new cheesemaker to have experience making cheese in a commercial facility, we are willing to consider someone with passion and the drive to become independent. The three most important parts of working for us in the cheese room are, 1) clean all the things, 2) clean some more, 3) maintain records.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Haul and test milk; Make cheese according to our recipes; Keep records; Improve our recipes and experiment with new ones; Bring new recipes to full production; Affinage in our cave; Clean; Prepare cheeses for distribution and deliver orders; Sell cheese at farmers’ markets; Provide input on procedures Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Passion for cheese; Passion for cleanliness; Passion for record-keeping; Ability to follow verbal and written directions; Willingness to take initiative and to offer constructive input; Willingness to work weekends; Ability to lift up to 30 lbs; Familiarity with cheesemaking process and a clean food environment preferred; Familiarity with federal and state regulations preferred ServSafe and Allergen Awareness certificates preferred; Milk hauler’s license for Massachusetts a plus

(2/16/17) MARKET SALES REPRESENTATIVECouët Farm & Fromagerie, Dudley, MA

We have an opening for a farmers’ market representative to start in May 2017. This is a part time position, between 12 and 24 hours per week depending on new hire availability and the number of markets we decide to attend. The position reports to the owner of Couët Farm & Fromagerie. We are looking at expanding our small team, where each of us wears many hats, and we expect the new hire to be willing to do the same. While we would prefer our new rep to have experience cheesemongering or selling at farmers’ markets, we are willing to consider someone with passion and motivation. The two most important parts of working a market for us are, 1) interacting and engaging with customers in a respectful and informative way and 2) maintaining impeccable records of cheese sales.

Duties include but are not limited to: Cut & wrap cheeses at our cheesemaking facility; Pack cheese and market materials; Drive between Couët Farm and markets; Set up and take down table, tent, etc.; Call to and discuss with customers to actively sample and sell cheese; Record every sale and monitor inventory; Maintain and clean market materials; Prepare cheeses for distribution and deliver orders; Provide input on procedures Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Ability to simultaneously manage cash, customers, and inventory; Willingness to call to and engage with the nearest customer; Ability to keep impeccable records of sales and inventory; Ability to lift up to 30 lbs; Have your own vehicle, vehicle insurance, and a valid driver’s license; Willingness to work on weekends

(2/21/17) WHOLESALE COORDINATOR, Cricket Creek Farm, Williamstown, MA

We’re hiring again! Our Wholesale Cheese Coordinator oversees the packaging, shipment and delivery of our cheese throughout Berkshire County and beyond! This 20-25 hour a week position has some flexibility with hours required on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Looking for someone who is extremely detail oriented, has a valid drivers license and would enjoying working as a part of a great team on the farm. (2/28/17) ASSISTANT CHEESEMAKER, The Grey Barn and Farm, Chilmark, MA

The Grey Barn and Farm is a 100 acre certified organic 100% grass-fed dairy located on Martha’s Vineyard. We are committed to sustainability for the land and our community and hope that any individual applying for this position has the same aspirations. We are looking for an Assistant Cheesemaker to round out our creamery team. This person will assist Head Cheesemaker with production, packaging and sales of our cheeses. As with all creamery roles, this job requires focus, attention to detail and willingness to work long, odd hours. This is great opportunity for someone looking to grow a career in all aspects of producing and selling cheese.

Reports to: Head cheesemaker; Owners.

Tasks include: – Assist in cheesemaking and ripening. – Wrap cheeses and prepare for sale. – Maintain production and sanitation records. – Cleaning: so much cleaning, every day. – Participate in quality control cheese tasting sessions. – Stock and maintain retail shop; participate in tours if needed. Other requirements: – Must be able to lift 50 lbs, repeatedly. – Must be able to work in hot/humid and cold/damp environments for extended periods. – Must be willing to safely handle concentrated caustic and acid cleaning chemicals. Qualifications: – Minimum 1 year experience in cheese production. – Professional attitude, flexible schedule. – Ability to work independently at times, collaboratively at times. This is a full time, year-round, salaried position. Start April/ May 2017. Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience. Possible housing on farm.
